"Arrite everybody, I'm sorry but the ceremony is not quite yet finished.. Just a few more minutes of your time, and then you can go." The people I could feel were slightly annoyed by this, having to dress up in their nicest most uncomfortable clothes on a most uncomfortable day like this, with the hot summer winds blowing through the open church the entire hour before. Nevertheless, they acted gracious enough to see me perform my ritual. They quietly retook their seats and allowed me to get on with my duty. Feeling slightly stupid about myself for leaving it behind, I scrambled back through the flowing peach curtains and pale blue marble pillars to the pew i was seated in during the mass. I grabbed the fourth small, shiny cube, and quickly returned to the side altar. I took them all, along with the various other trinkets and placed them one the red pillow under the glass dome, just as I had done all those times before. The amulet I had worn was a reason for coming today in itself; the same I had fought for all those times before, and I actually got to wear it again today! Ihe magical mysteries such as this were so few and far between anymore, but if you knew where to look, sometimes you'd get lucky. I felt good again, getting to enter the ceremony today, but i knew the real reward was yet to come. As the priest started his incantation off in the foreground and the crowd watched patiently from aside, i felt nothing this time. No feelings of joy, no message, nothing. The priest, knowing something was wrong, came directly over. "What's wrong here? this is m---- ... You've done it", he said. "Yeah i know, what now?", I asked, knowing in the back of my mind i'd be short on time. "... ...Keep on thanking Him", the priest said. "That's all? heh, keep on thanking him for the rest of my life? that's kinda pointless, don't you think? are you sure there isn't anything new?", i asked. "Just keep on thanking our Lord as we know it, for it is beneficial for you to do so", was all I got back. |
